Yoga is a 5,000 plus year old mind, body and spirit science whose origins trace back to the ancient Shaman Indians living in the Himalayan regions of India. It is indeed a science and study of what happens to the various cognitive, perceptive, emotional, hormonal, chemical, physiological and intuitive processes in the mind, body and energy connections when one practices the physically-based asana (poses), meditation and breathing aspects (pranayama) and adapts specific and supportive lifestyle practices/changes that support the overall growth process…. ie: nutrition, stress management, employment, etc.
In short, all the information about who you are, why you are here is already in your DNA… coded and of course in your heart once it truly opens. Now when saying something like this, for some, it might challenge an overly left-brain, science based individual. Remember, when anyone puts out an intriguing theory or statement, perspective or idea, like Galileo for instance, certain people throughout our existence can’t deal with big, evolutionary ideas that challenge and shake up certain, pre-programmed, belief systems or religious ideas……some get frightened of the notion that you have the ability to have complete control, autonomy and self-reliance over every aspect of your life…. and that begins with stabilizing your mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health. From there its Christmas everyday.
YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE…. stop doubting your voice… oh yeah and Parents, please stop your kids from buying Justin Beiber’s new fragrance… 1. the ingredients are mostly likely toxic and 2. most importantly, who cares.
Science always plays “catch-up” to innovating concepts, ideas and theories being brought forth every 100 years on this planet. I for one, will not wait for science to play catch up…. if I did, I would of died trusting a western medical model that, though probably meant well, was extremely limited in their scope of understanding the body and what it truly needs to heal internally; without resorting to opening you up prematurely. I healed myself with yoga, raw foods, juicing, acupuncture, chiropractic and so many other holistic methods. The body can, will and knows how to regenerate and balance itself….it just takes time, patience and a will to heal.
I challenge you to be an experiential learner….learn by experiencing and seeing how it measures up. That is the true test of whether or you know deep inside yourself that the information resonates and feels true to you. You honestly don’t need to read and memorize every yoga sutra or book on yoga because if you pay attention to your experiences, then you’ll have the knowledge already there for you and not potentially get caught up left-brain memorization or regurgitation of facts without a real connection to that information. And honestly, I’m personally tired of yoga colleagues bickering over “well this Swami says this or this Guru says that or the Chakalaka FartSniffer style of yoga has the best alignment theories, etc..” Oh, for Christ sake will y’all calm down, grab a tortilla chip and try the dip.
Generally speaking, if we all took half of the time we spend worrying about things we can’t control and projecting our issues onto others and put that into self-development, growth and healing work….then this planet would be at peace. That is our other “full time job” and responsibility… personal evolution. Today with 20 million people now doing yoga, I’m optimistic that we are beginning our next evolutionary process into an amazingly centered, calm and happy world….It may take another 100 years, but that’s okay with me. There will be a world one day that eats enough fiber, takes enough dumps, has abundance so everyone can eat, be clothed and shelter ourselves and has no interest in hurting another human being or selling our brothers and sisters out for their own gain..(Madoff, Wall Street crisis)
Whether one agrees with the next idea or not, I don’t care.
We are a World Tribe (not a New World Order), dependent upon one another for resource, stability and to deserve to be treating one another with integrity and honor. If the day comes when we stop taking, hurting and competing with each other , then this planet will finally understand our real reason for being here and be able to embrace our unique and individual gifts that we can leave behind during our very short 70 – 100 year journey…or mission. That is what I hope for…that realization of handing off the baton to the next runner knowing you’d made things better, not leaving things a mess for the next runner and crapping all over the track.
Get on the mat, calm down and get inspired to take better care of yourself. We are truly at our best when we’re calm, clear and focused. Read your food labels, say no to GMO… I don’t want salmon DNA in my tomato or risk my children being born with gills one day
Embrace the work and intentions of Nikoli Tesla… and to the upper 2% of wealth in this country…for those that give back, awesome of you to see the bigger picture and the importance you play in the history of our species.
To the greed-mongerers and robber barrens of our society, I’m sorry someone hurt your heart and blackened your soul…, but remember, you might one day end up in Depends Under Garments… (Adult Diapers kids) with a nurse staff waiting on you around the clock to wipe the crap out of your ass 3-4 times a day, put lotion on your backside to ease the pain of the scabs and bed sores you’ll be afflicted with if you’re one day incapacitated. I will not apologize for being so lovingly direct with you, but this is how my Grandfather ended up. God rest his soul…….but he was a selfish, entitlement based, arrogant, power and prestige addicted, miserly SOB who put himself first and treated people like crap. (tragic irony). Karma is King….You reap what you sow. That was his yoga practice and he finally figured that out 2 hours before he died and apologized to me for how he lived his life…. it was beautiful and sad…….and I held his hand and told him I forgave him.
GOOGLE YOGA, much to learn, much to read and do…… experience, experience, experience then integrate, integrate, integrate
Today my friends….is a “good day to die” ….. So shed your old snakeskin, stop procrastinating and the sabotage and give birth to the real you. No matter where you try to run, there you are.
Sincerely and Namaste, DALIEN, aka 13 HANDS
