13 HANDS, aka DALIEN, is a two-time Grammy nominee, Professor of Yoga, ERYT500 instructor, kirtan wallah, presenter and sound therapist who has been immersed in many studies, approaches and styles of yoga, holistic health education, shamanism and contemporary/ world chant music for over 20 years. With 13 albums, playing over 25 instruments and touring approximately 100-150 events a year, he’s created a very unique, spiritual and people-centered, lifestyle company 13 HANDS / NOMADYOGA, that integrates all of his skills, talents and services. A survivor of Crohns/Colitis and other endocrine issues, he healed himself completely through a very inspiring journey to go on and implement this wisdom and stages of healing into the programs, workshops, teacher training modules, concerts and personal development work he shares to help people with general health, stress reduction issues and in the recovery of post traumatic stress disorder symptoms. Additionally, his instrumental healing music that has been proven to reduce anxiety and improve sleeping challenges. Yogically on the mat 22 years teaching 15, he runs the gamut of styles into various integrated approaches that he customizes to the student, group or setting to strike a balance between the ego, authentic range of motion, astrology and chakra relationships. With a seeker’s mindset and never ending curiosity of a child (he’s a Gemini!) he’s studied Hatha, Vini, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Kripalu, Iyengar and Anusara combined with the muscular energy principles of Eastern Martial Arts, primarily, Qigong.
He shares with so much joy, love, passion, community, a super sense of humor and has shared those gifts presenting along side and/or with at events with The Dali Lama, Jack Kornfield, Anne Lamott, Mark Nepo, Shiva Rea, Seane Corn, Dr. Masaru Emoto, Gary Null, Amy Ippoliti, Dharma Mitra, Elena Brower, RUN DMC, Ani DiFranco, Marjorie Fair, Ours, Paula Cole, Laurie Anderson, the late Pheobe Snow and beloved Shyamdas, Krishna Das, WAH!, Snatam Kaur, Guru Ganesha, Jai Jagadesha, Sean Johnson, Dave Stringer and many more…..along with many other wonderful teachers, healers and artists at festivals, ashrams, retreat centers like Kripalu, Omega, ECA, WSSC fitness conferences and other spiritual/yoga events like Yoga @ the Great Lawn, Global Mala, Sounds True Wake Up Festival & Wanderlust NYC and a recent Tedx talk. He’s also a graduate of Hippocrates Institute and is kind of a “living proof, raw foodie, testimonial to the healing powers of a yogic, spiritually conscious and organic, raw, enzyme and oxygen rich, living foods. Honestly, he’s just happy to be alive and getting a 2nd chance.

The 13 HANDS contemporary sound is a unique mix of David Gray, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd and everything that was great about the 60’s/70’s while his hypnotic, world music style incorporates Indian, African and Native American music influences. The fact that he plays so many instruments, contributes to his unique live production that involves Hang Drum, Harmonium, Djembe, Doumbek and a host of Baritone and Acoustic Guitar based textures and soundscapes all routed through an intriguing pedalboard of effects, samplers, bells, whistles and other neat sonic toys that he eloquently calls, “the mothership”.
His events and shows are inspiring, fun, inclusive (turns the audience into his band at various points, invites strangers up to play) and shares with an open heart, sense of humor and builds an feeling of community at his shows.
Additionally, he is graduate of the Hippocrates Institute of Living Foods Nutrition, a member of the Sound Healers Association, studied Kung Fu, Eastern healing and Qigong with 34th Generation, Master Shaolin Monk Sifu Shin Yang Ming from China, is an-going student of Native American and Peruvian Shamanism, healing music, drumming and arts for over ten years and holds a BA from NYU in music, jazz performance and sound engineering. His passion is to create health awareness, bring change and inspire through education, yoga, mind-body health, music, the arts, environmental consciousness, empowerment and motivational programs. Whether he’s conducting various lectures, classes, workshops on yoga and/or sound related programs and protocols, his experience, caring and humorous approach and “real-life” wisdom make him an informative and respected teacher.
His unique background coupled with 20 years of “in the field” and authentic life experience has allowed for a seamless integration of various music performance, empowerment, lecture, teaching, motivational health presentations in arenas such as: corporate wellness, stress management, autism, personal and professional development seminars, education, arts related venues, yoga workshops, domestic violence, PTSD, sexual assault, sub-acute care / assisted living, drug prevention, teacher training, retreat centers and health care venues.
Having studied with various master teachers of yoga, shamanism, sound healing and martial arts along with healing himself from life threatening, health challenges….. he brings a fun, humbled and informative perspective to the practice. He’s been best described as Swami Satchananda meets Robin Williams and John Lennon. His musical background is also woven into his work as he’s known for one of the most relaxing svasana’s around implementing, chant, hang drum, native flute and other sound meditative instruments.
His inspiring healing journey of curing Crohns, Colitis, Chronic upper respiratory, allergy and chemical sensitivity issues, depression, IBS, Seliac Disease, Epstein Barr, Chronic Fatigue, head and spine trauma and other related digestive, endocrine and liver issues took nearly 20 years and enlisted the help of many holistic-based health practitioners, various teachers, raw/living foods, and other “outside the box” approaches.
The wisdom and humbling from this journey became the foundation for his most recent initiative, THE HEARTT PROTOCOLS, a holistic methodology that has been clinically proven to provide physical, emotional and spiritually healing breakthroughs in the treatment of PTSD, improving sleep, reducing the need to be dependent on anti-depressants and other trauma related symptoms in survivors of domestic violence, trauma, sexual abuse and in various arenas of mental illness.
